Skanem is one of Europe's largest suppliers of self-adhesive labels. Skanem Group's main focus is on sales to large national and multinational brand owners in Europe and South-East Asia. The challenge the group faces is to handle the complexity of such major contracts in a commercially satisfactory manner – and at the same time keep up the quality, service grade and close contact with our domestic customers.
How to serve both big and small optimally?
The scale of available production capacity in Europe for self-adhesive labels leads to intense price competition, and we acknowledge the need for being ever more focused on the needs of our clients – big or small. Every site in the Skanem Group shall therefore concentrate their activities to serve their local customers within the different market segments. Multinational customers will be managed centralised through our Key Account management team – but served on a daily basis from the selected site.
We are confident that we will manage to keep all our customers happy, because we have always shown the dedication and commitment to do so.
The history of Skanem
Skanem was founded in 1905 under the name "Stavanger Blikktrykkeri og Maskinverksted" (Stavanger Printers & Engineering Workshop). In 1973, the company changed its name to Skanem. Ole Rugland – the present owner and Group President acquired Skanem in 1986.
In 2002, Skanem acquired SE Labels and started a new era and a change in direction.
In 2003 most of the Metal Packaging and Film companies were sold, but Skanem has chosen to keep one metal packaging plant in Moss of Norway (Skanem Moss) and a soft PVC plant in Ronneby of Sweden (Riflex Film AB).
Today, production takes place in 12 factories with around 1100 employees in eight countries. In June 2007 we also opened our first production site in Asia outside Bangkok, Thailand. Skanem serves all segments in need of self-adhesive labels.
