Wet Wipes with a reclosable label from Skanem.

Self-adhesive labels undergo a process of continuous product development, with a key focus on function. Labels can be used for more than merely marking products.

SLEEVES were introduced on the Norwegian market four years ago. The present version consisting of pre-selected adhesive areas and optional reverse side printing has been a great success. During the course of 2006 the concept will be in use among several brand-leaders in the food and beverage industry. Sleeves are used to label meat, poultry and seafood. Re-branded products using Skanem Sleeves have recorded a sharp rise in sales volumes and have gained market shares.

PEEL & READ is a smart label construction offering major logistic advantages. Peel & Read labels are easy to open, easy to close and can consist of several pages, containing several language versions, information concerning contents, warnings, recipes, advertising campaigns or competitions.

RECLOSABLE LABELS are a specially constructed label that allows you to reseal the pack. Consumer packaging for moist towelettes, cheese and bread are typical examples of usage. The label is easy to open and easy to reseal (see picture).

BOOKLET LABELS consist of a paper folder attached to a self-adhesive label. Folders may contain between 4 and 26 pages, and the labels can be adapted for use on flat and rounded surfaces. The market in selected niches is growing, and these types of labels are used for product descriptions, operating instructions, multilingual versions and marketing campaigns.

FLEXIBLE PACKAGING – Flexible packaging specialist Skanem Hull’s ability to match the quality available from gravure on its flexo presses and to turn around short-run jobs with lightening speed at a significantly lower cost has persuaded the UK’s leading dried food producers to switch from gravure to flexo printing for several of their premium ranges of sauces and soups.

IN MOULD LABELLING are high quality labels integrated on small plastic containers, and offer a high degree of security to the product. In Mould Labelling is an alternative to self-adhesive labels.

SKANEM SYSTEMS is the solution provider for the Skanem label group. For many years it has supplied label systems from high quality manufacturers as well as manufacturing its own applicators and systems. Over recent years this has included paper-banding systems, carton-board sleeving systems and data capture systems. Skanem Systems is the home of the Skanem Sleeving System, the environmentally-friendly backingless packaging solution providing a flexible highspeed alternative to conventional label and sleeve systems.

FRAGRANCE LABELS
With packaging becoming better and better consumers are not able to smell the product without the vendor supplying a tester sample. Fragranced labels overcome this issue by using an ink that has a perfume added to it that matches your product, therefore allowing the customer to smell your product by simply rubbing the label and smelling it.

BRAILLE & TACTILE LABELS
We’ve developed a label for blind people that need help in choosing the right product? Read the Braille impressions on the label.

HOLOGRAPHIC LABELS
Holograms are becoming used more frequently to add extra value to customers labels by giving greater shelf impact. Holograms can also be used for anti-counterfeiting and other low level security systems. Skanem Cardiff can supply either traditional paper substrates or the latest filmic version of the hologram.

RETURNABLE LABELS
We have produced what is known as a "clear-on-clear label" that, once applied to a bottle, will resist the effects of the caustic wash and the pasteurisation for ten to 15 times – usually sufficient for the whole lifetime of the bottle.
