Fourteen years on, Skanem Cardiff has become a leading manufacturer to the Personal Care and Beverage markets with a reputation for service & reliability. • Innovative Inks & Varnishes
Skanem Cardiff uses both UV and solvent based printing process’s to cure our inks. This means we can supply the latest innovative inks and varnishes in the market place. Skanem Cardiff also has experience in printing thermochromic (inks that change colour at a specified temperature), ultra violet, pearlescent and tactile inks systems which means customers can get better value and impact from their labels. |
• Ultra V & Optical Brightener Inks
UV inks and optical brighteners can be used for increased online application performance for missing label detectors and for generating glow in the dark labels for clubs and bars. The glow in the dark effect will give your product strong shelf impact and extra eye caching appeal. |

• Reverse Printing

Production
Production facilities and equipment are specialised for the Personnel Care Cosmetic and Beverage industry. We control the complete production process in house.
We have standardized printing presses that allows far greater Flexibility within the production area with 24hour production running seven days a week.
Pre-press/Origination
The Origination Department produces all of the film, reprographics and proofing functions for the Cardiff site. All process are carried out internally to the highest standard.
The staff in the studio are very highly skilled, trained and motivated and have a genuine enthusiasm for the job that they perform. The studio is also undergoing continuing investment in new technology and training for the staff.
Over the last few years as a group we have been striving towards a common repro platform so that we can move work around the various sites with more synergy. Most of the equipment and software in the studio is replicated in the other Skanem facilities across the UK and Europe, thus giving us maximum flexibility and capacity.
To further this aim the Cardiff site have invested heavily in Artwork Systems ARTpro software and have acquired new AGFA imagesetting equipment to come in line with the rest of the Skanem Group.
We can now accept digital artwork data in many different formats - We can also originate artwork from concept drawings or early design briefs.
We also have the facility onsite to produce one-off product ‘concept’ labels on our Kodak proofing system. The system is capable of producing concept labels on the actual production substrate with an under printing white (if necessary) and with a selection of coloured silver or gold foil blocking.
Our artwork data is backed up on a daily basis with an additional copy held off-site for added peace of mind.
